At Ms Monaco Hair Society, we are conscious about the environment and are constantly seeking new ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Recently, we discovered the Sustainable Salon Revolution – and we are proud to announce that Ms Monaco Hair Society is now a Sustainable Salon!

Sustainable Salons is a social enterprise that works to reduce up to 95% of salon resources from landfill. It also finds repurposing solutions that benefit the planet – all while supporting the community.

Through the Sustainable Salons program, packages, bags and plastic bottles are recycled into new products, keeping the materials in circulation and out of our oceans. Excess chemicals are used to build roads and your hair is even used to help clean up oil spills!

Sustainable Salons have achieved great results so far…

• Over 70,000kg of paper recycled
• Over 52,000kg of plastic kept out of landfills and in circulation
• 7,500 litres of excess chemicals recycled back into water
• Over 81,00kg of metals diverted from landfills
• Recycled 800kg over e-waste
• Over 7 tonnes of hair collected for The Hair Bloom Project

As well as having an incredible impact on our environment, all proceeds made from repurposing salon materials are donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest – which provides meals to those in need.

Their ponytail donation program has helped thousands

Before Sustainable Salons, valuable ponytails were being dumped in landfills, becoming completely wasted resources.

Today through the Sustainable Salons enterprise, all ponytails are now collected and distributed to charitable organisations – where they become wigs for those suffering from medically induced hair-loss conditions such as cancer or Alopecia.

Since launching in 2015, more than 43,000 ponytails have been collected!

Over the past few years, we’ve been moving more and more into becoming an ‘environmentally conscious business’, and joining the Sustainable Salon revolution has taken us to the next level.

So far, we are absolutely loving this change in the salon, and our clients have been loving it too. The only cost is a small green fee of $2 per visit.

Sustainable Salons are on a journey to a zero waste industry, and we are so excited to be a part of it!
